Ices, ice popsicles, ice lollies: whatever you want to call them, one can't help admire the sheer brilliance of this seasonal offering from London's grand dame: Fortnum & Mason. Made from their very own champagne - Blanc de Blancs, we can't wait to get.. I was going to say one but who are we kidding! Sheer perfection and a most fitting way to celebrate our continuing English summer.

Is there anything better than a new cookbook? Probably not. So we were thrilled to receive an advanced copy of Kylee's Newton's the modern preserver. Since arriving on our doorstop, we have been savouring this tome of modern preserves from Kylee’s own signature tamarillo chutney to her wonderful cordial recipes, butters and curbs, and even pickles. We have always been a fan of Netwon & Pott since we first met Kylee at Broadway Market and this her first book is a tantalising collection of simple-to-follow but interesting recipes. A very modern preserver, her approach to this traditional craft is that preserving is an antidote to waste. Not only does the art of jam, chutney and pickle making allow us to capture the seasons but it offers a very economic and sustainable approach to what can be created in even the smallest of kitchens. This is a great go-to book with each turn of the page offering a new recipe to delight and inspire hours in the kitchen. Published by Square Peg, The Modern Preserver is due out on 20 August 2015. DISCOVER LONDON'S ARTISANS
It's August and I've been a little quiet of late focussing on some freelance writing and editing opportunities. (I have happily been writing my article for Remedy Quarterly (thus the photo above), launching a special edition of Food&_, as well as helping a London artisan with some PR and web content.) However, I will be back full speed next week as I put to bed my interview with Blackwood Cheeses - due out in August, and kick-up my forthcoming interview with La Grotta.
It’s an exciting time for Food&_ as we celebrate our second anniversary and the community of writers, illustrators, photographers, food stylists and cooks that have contributed to our online publication over the last two years.
To celebrate, we are launching a special edition of Food&_ that’s all about Community. For us, community is about people, good food, and the stories that we share with one another. It’s meals shared with family and friends, the food we bring to the table, the recipes we share, the markets we visit and the producers and artisans that we buy from. So to mark the second year anniversary of Food&_, we want to hear about your stories about community. Perhaps it’s a story about summer harvest, a group of organic farmers that work collectively, childhood memories of street parties, or simply memories of a meal shared. Submissions are due on Tuesday 18 August 2015. You can find all the details here. |
