 SW1 is one of my favourite places in London. For me, it's the London of Londoners with all the vibrancy, colour and noise of a local neighbourhood. It is a place where people say hello and there is a sense of community. I like to always start my walk around Upper Tachbrook Street at one of London’s true neighbourhood markets or at Labella Sicilia, a small Italian family-run deli on Warwick Way. While I'm there, I'll drop into Rippon Cheese. This landmark cheese purveyor has been supplying London with cheese for the last twenty years and its storeroom lends itself to a least an hour of tasting. I always like to check out Bonne Bouche when I'm in the area. While a Continental bakery, it sells English classic bakes like treacle tart. It's a typical high street bakery but one from the 1950s.
Mood depending, l might head south towards the Thames and simply walk the back streets of Pimlico. I like the calmness that prevails after the rows of B&Bs and tourist hotels. Here I simply wander, enjoying the coloured blooms of the window boxes that bring life to what is otherwise an austere architecture. If I'm luckly, I'll find Khallouk & Taylor hidden among its tree-lined streets or the equally quaint, Delizie D’Italia located on Lupus Street - a deli that is another reminder of the Italian heritage of this area. Or I might head directly towards Belgravia. I like to drop into Daylesford Organic and if it is a Saturday, Pimlico Farmers Market on Orange Square. The produce here is always inspiring and I particular like Wild Country Organics for my leafy greens. Occasionally (and just occasionally), I will end my walk at William Curley for a fusion-inspired chocolate afternoon tea.
